Make the most of a day out in Pembroke

Despite being the town the county is named after, Pembroke is often overlooked when people plan their Pembrokeshire holiday. But, with all our recommendations, you’ll find that Pembroke is a great place to while away a few hours exploring.

West Angle Bay, a short drive from Warren Farm, Wales
Angle

West Angle bay. A lovely toddler-friendly beach

West Angle bay takes a while to get to, located as it is beyond Angle out on the western tip of the southern peninsular. But with its sheltered location and multiple coves, it’s a fantastic beach for toddlers and smaller kids. It’s also great for more adventurous teenagers. In fact, it’s the beach Hannah’s grandparents took her to the most often up until the age of about five. It was a regular feature of her bike expeditions with friends when she was older.

Cafes west of Pembroke

The peninsular west of Pembroke might seem remote and uninhabited, but we’ve a surprising number of cafes: Ye Olde Worlde Cafe, Bosherston This is one

Stackpole Quay

Stackpole Quay. Perfect for pirate adventures

This tiny, and extremely sheltered, little cove was used as a private harbour for the former Stackpole House. With crystal clear waters, it’s popular for fishing, scuba diving and quay jumping.

Manorbier

Manorbier. The most pleasant place by far

The village of Manorbier is blessed with three beaches: Precipe, Skrinkle and Manorbier. But its namesake beach is the most well-known, and historically, the best loved. As far back as the 1190’s, Gerald of Wales or Giraldus Cambrensis gave it a rave review. He described the village as “in all the broad lands of Wales, Manorbier is the most pleasant place by far”

Barafundle

Barafundle. A World Top Ten Beach

Barafundle is one of the most spectacular beaches in Pembrokeshire. It used to only be known to locals. Now with reviews in The Sunday Times, inclusion in World Top Ten lists and the like, its beauty is more widely known, meaning it can get busy in peak season.

Flimston

Flimston. A classic Pembrokeshire secret beach

Flimston is often overlooked – literally, as it’s easily spotted from the cliff top – but not visited by many. Usually only accessed by climbers, you have to be quite an intrepid explorer to venture down to it.

Broadhaven

Broadhaven South. Great for tots and teens

Despite the name being somewhat of a misnomer (it’s not as wide as Broad Haven North but is quite a deep beach) Broadhaven South is a classic Pembrokeshire beach, with golden sands stretching far back towards Bosherston Lilyponds.
It has great surf as well as a sheltered lagoon, making it great for families with a mix of big and little ones.

Marloes beach from the path, a striking beaqch to visit from Warren Farm, Wales
Marloes

Marloes. Golden sands with striking rock formations

Marloes is one of Pembrokeshire’s westernmost larger beaches. It faces out into the Atlantic, making for spectacular waves. And even though it is one of the many large, golden sand beaches across the county, the many rocky outcrops across the beach make it quite unusual and distinctive.

Freshwater West. Arguably the best beach in Pembs

Friends & family probably already know how this review is going to go, after all, Freshwater West is not only the closest beach to the farm, it’s also been our favourite beach for many, many decades.
