Time to start sowing?

Listening to Gardener’s Question Time on BBC Radio 4 the other day, they recommended that we start off our growing season by planting seeds for heat-loving greenhouse produce like tomatoes, peppers and aubergines.

Of course, with the recent cold snap we weren’t planning to plant anything for a little while yet, but are now wondering whether we should bring the new heat mat Jane bought towards the end of last year in from the polytunnel. The house is much warmer, and perhaps the polytunnel will have warmed up by the time we’ve got healthy plants a good half dozen inches tall.

Ah, well, another spring of negotiating seed trays every time we want to open a window or use the upstairs bathroom.

The photo below is of a lovely healthy tomato plant from an old post at You Grow Girl (http://www NULL.yougrowgirl NULL.com), a blog after our own hearts. You should check it out.
